Illustrations of pathology, surgery or diagnostic medicine are found in this portfolio. Illustrations are often much more effective in conveying complex anatomical and clinical information than text alone. Imagine telling the parents of a newborn child that the child has a condition known as transposition of the great vessels of the heart. The nomenclature alone would be enough the impose more confusion. When the surgeon uses a series of illustrations to help visualize the condition, the entire condition and surgeries required are made easier to understand.
This is probably the most powerful tool a medical illustrator can create; a communication tool.
